Observations: Vietnamese Fashions

Women:
  • Pants must be tight around the thighs. Loose pants are reserved for home.
  • Donning thick socks (white or patterened) with heels is stylish
  • Weaing high stilettos on motorbikes is norm.

Men:

  • Sporting jackets 4 sizes too big is cool. (Imagine skinny 5'3 Vietnamese man wearing a XXXXL)

All:

  • It is okay to wear your PJs out of your home. It is also okay to drive a motorbike in your PJs.
  • Jeans are appropriate for all occasions.
  • Flamboyant jackets with studs and glitter all over are acceptable.
  • Fur-lined coats are perfect for 70 degree weather.
  • Wearing the same clothes day after day is acceptable, if not encouraged to reduce load of laundry.
  • Picking dandruff from each other's head is very appreciated.
  • Being smelly is norm. It's not necessarily because one doesn't take a shower, but because the weather in Hanoi doesn't permit clothes to dry peroperly - leading to very smelly clothes.

I am scrunching my nose in an admittedly culturally insensitive manner.

Looks like you really have a learning experience! I definitely look forward to seeing you in PJs and stilettos on your future motor bike!
